The Winter Classic of 2009 was the scene. The Chicago Blackhawks vs. The Detroit Red Wings on New Year’s Day outside at Wrigley Field. I was fortunate enough to attend the game . . . from a rooftop across the street. I took this photograph during the national anthem. If you haven’t had the pleasure of personally experiencing the national anthem at a Blackhawks game then you are seriously missing out. All other sporting events and teams treat the national anthem in the same fashion, the crowd is relatively quiet and calm while the singer belts out the patriotic anthem and as the song comes to a conclusion the crowd erupts into a cheer. At a Blackhawks game it’s quite a different scenario altogether. Even before the first note is heard the crowd stands, claps and roars at a playoff decibel level. It’s insane. The adrenaline rushes through your body from the start and you cannot help but yell as loud as you can through the duration of the song.
Go Red Wings!
